Susan Mar Landau

Coming from an educational and artistic background that encompasses the visual arts, new media, performance and cultural theory, my artistic interests are situated at the place where theory and practice meet. Over the last ten years I have developed a rich practice as a dramaturg, working in the fields of contemporary dance and devised performance; collaborating on numerous original productions that challenge the definition of a single genre. These have included large scale projects encompassing multiple sites, as well as intimate solo works. Collaborating with artists who draw their sources from dramatic text, somatic and vocal practices and public engagement, as well as other artistic disciplines; I have helped stage pieces in proscenium and black box theaters, art galleries, and public spaces.

I see the dramaturg as a dialectical force. Working in relation to the concerns and ambitions of the “author,” the dramaturg acts both to support and disrupt, all towards a desire to know and to identify the unknown in a creative process.
